Conwy Town Walls near Conwy Castle
North Wales
Conwy Town Walls is a popular visitor attraction in the town of Conwy in North Wales and is one of a select few that can still be walked upon today.
The walls circuit the old town for over three quarters of a mile stretching from the castle right round in a semi circle to the far end of the quayside.
Visitors can walk along the majority of Conwy's walls although there is a small section near the castle that has been closed due to safety reasons.
If you start your walk near the castle then this section is largely level. Access is via a number of stairs although it is not suitable for wheelchairs.
You'll be forced to leave the walls behind for a short period whilst walking around Conwy's train station but can rejoin the walls towards the west and the highest point of Conwy's walls.
You can rejoin the walls at Uppergate Street which is accessed by turning left after Conwy train station.
The ascent to the highest point of the walls is quite steep but offers spectacular views across the whole town towards Conwy Castle.
The good news is that if you are taking this route then it's pretty much downhill from this point as well.
As you descend towards Conwy's quayside you'll find some of the best preserved sections of the walls.
There are plenty of opportunities to look across Conwy's rooftops along the way.
The final section of the wall takes you down towards Conwy Quay. There are some great views to be had at this point of Conwy Estuary towards Deganwy and Llandudno and also in the opposite direction towards Conwy Castle.
Unless you fancy walking back around the walls the opposite way, which will be mostly uphill, you may decide to walk along the quayside and perhaps enjoy some refreshments in the Liverpool Arms Pub.
Tariff
Walking along Conwy Town Walls is free.
